Tor Bortz, woodsmith
Tor Bortz began his carpentry career early in life while accompanying his father as he inspected houses. He is one of the fortunate ones who always knew what he wanted to do.
Tor's love for wood and the development of his carpentry skills have been honed over the last 50 years.
He specializes in unique hand-crafted furniture that highlights the natural beauty of each piece of wood. Today, Tor enjoys the challenge of finding just the right pieces that fit together to create lovely and enduring pieces of art.
Most of his wood comes from fallen trees in the Burlington area, and some have been salvaged from the lake - recycling through and through. Through his connections, Tor knows many from the tree industry.
Tor has quite the inventory of stumps in varying stages of drying and finishing. Let him design something special for you!
Lorena Bortz, artisan
Lorena and Tor have been married and living in Burlington for the past 40 years.
Lorena also began creating crafts at an early age, starting out with making clothes for her dolls. Since then, she has developed skills in crocheting, sewing, cross-stitch, and, more recently, plastic canvas.
She has specialized in finding designs and designing herself unique gifts for such celebrations as weddings, birthdays, and Christmas. She loves seeing someone's face when they open something made just for them.
Participating in craft shows has helped Lorena discover what people value.
